SEEN from STATISTICS

NBA FINALS

San Antonio Spurs had gotten the series of NBA Finals, 4-3, over Detroit Pistons to win the three-time NBA title which Spurs lifted first since 2003 against NY Nets. I tried to think in my own way where victory or defeat of both teams had divided.

It had been said both San Antonio and Detoirt were defensive teams, so you could say that one team to get the initiative of the game defeated another. In Game 1, Detorit was too defensive, in a word, little of field-goal-attempts to go for victory. Pistons might have already lost series-momentum in that time.

SA:5 starters 31/69 FG, 2/14 3G, 16 TO in Gm1
DET:5 starters 25/60 FG, 1/5 3G, 13 TO in Gm1

In Game 2, Ginobili and Bowen of Spurs made eight 3-pointers to destroy Pistons in early period. In Game 3 thanks to Ginobili's short playing-time, defending-champ adjusted aggressiveness to get first win. In Game 4 and 5, sixth-man each made marvelous performances to lead victory for each team. Robert Horry, San Antonio's sixth-man has many experiences in NBA Finals, I don't think, however, that he did his jobs through the series. In the point of being impressive, Lindsey Hunter of Detroit also did them.

In Game 6, thanks to Spur's bad offences, Pistons tied series, but in last game Chauncey Billups of Piston had become lack of gas to stop Detoit's dream of consecutive wins. San Antonio Spurs were worth winning the NBA Final Trophy. I want, however, to see the team to beat them next season.

JAPAN'S BRIGHT FREE KICKS

INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL

June's world campaigns of Japan, FIFA Confederations Cup Germany 2005 and FIFA World Youth Netherlands 2005 were over. In both tournaments, free kicks of Japanese players attracted the world.

Koki Mizuno, who is now playing with JEF United Chiba of Japan, made two free kicks successful in Netherlands where he found Hirayama's head in meeting host country and carried directly it into the Benin's net. At the Round-of-16-match against Morocco he got the first participation from the start and made chances for Japan as right wing, however he was replaced in the second half without chance of free kick before Morocco sank Japan by the last-minutes-goal. Our youth squad need more experiences and skills.

Shunsuke Nakamura, who played with Reggina of Italy last season, worked all time of the three games in Germany where he hit a free kick's ball on the post to connect fast-reacting Oguro's foot to tie the game against Brazil, who allowed him to fire waking-up-Japan's-supporters long-range shot at the first half. Japan's number 10, who was taken much time to defend Mexico's players at the first match, also gave substitute Oguro's winning goal against Greece of the 2nd match.

Forwards to get goals are needed for Japan, traditionally, I think. It may be simple to think that more goals you get by next year to start the WC, more possibilities you have to become strikers of Japan squad, regardless of playing in or out of J-League. They are sure to become the help of the success for Japan in FIFA World Cup Germany 2006.

match results:

FIFA Confederations Cup Germany 2005
Group B at Hanover (16 Jun)
Japan 1-2 Mexico

Group B at Frankfurt (19 Jun)
Japan 1-0 Greece

Group B at Cologne (22 Jun)
Japan 2-2 Brazil

FIFA World Youth Championship Netherlands 2005
Group A at Kerkrade (15 Jun)
Japan 1-1 Benin

Group A at Kerkrade (18 Jun)
Japan 1-1 Australia

Round of 16 at Enschede (21 Jun)
Japan 0-1 Morocco

HIRAYAMA, and LONG BALL

INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL

Lately, congratulations for Zico Japan squads' getting a ticket of FIFA World Cup Grmany 2006!!!

Japan, who should test a lot of footballers during one year to start the World Cup games, don't forget a twenty-year-old player, Sota Hirayama. For me was the game this to think that he made great performances against host Dutch defences in the first match at the FIFA World Youth Championship Netherlands 2005.

Dutch making the game from left wing #7 Quincy Owusu Abeyie, who connected two chances to score by #10 Ibrahim Afellay and #11 Ryan Babel, Japan kicked lobbing balls from the bottom line into #9 Hirayama in the area where he struggled with orange defences sandwitching the blue targetman. Trailing two deficits, Japan coach Kiyoshi Ohkuma continued to command the mission with foolishness, but it was his foolishness that Hirayama cut the deficit to head the ball from substitute #12 Koki Mizuno's free kick into the net.

Limited to possese the ball, Japan made a chance to tie the game at the end of the time and ended to shoot the substitute #11 Robert Cullen's ball to go over the bar.

"They are not unbeatable." said Hirayama after the game. I believe firmly to win the rest of two games to go through the group stage.

match result:

FIFA World Youth Championship Netherlands 2005
Match #2 (Group A) at Kerkrade (10 Jun)

Netherlands 2-1 Japan
(1-0)07' AFELLAY
(2-0)18' BABEL
(2-1)68' HIRAYAMA
