SAO PAULO TRAPS TO WIN TOYOTA CUP
Brazilian goalkeeper had shut out a lot of red attacks, having offside-trapped them, to hand Sao Paulo FC to a win over Liperpool FC in the final of the FIFA Club World Championship TOYOTA Cup Japan 2005. That's why the keeper Rogerio Ceni named an MVP in the match.
The Sao Paulo strikers attacked efficiently while Liverpool dominated around the field. At the 1st half, the game was still well balanced between two teams' power, but was inclining at the red team after Amoroso and Aloisio exchanged short-passes and found Mineiro in the box to score a opening goal. Liverpool FC is like a World All Star team, sending off players of Spain, Ireland, Finland, Australia and Mali including England as starters. Spanish coach Rafael Benitez changed a game-plan to put on Fernando Morientes as lone striker in the night and Harry Kewell and Steven Gerrard trying from the side. That plan didn't seem to work well for Liverpool to threaten Paulo Autuori's defence. Gerrard tried sometimes from outside box but shot wide. Sao Paulo didn't defend the lead during the game when 2 strikers including defenceman Cicinho counterattacked to carry the ball to threaten a goal. Then it was too late for Liverpool to substitute strikers to tie the game before time ending.
That game was the one, I thought, that the characteristic of both teams was demonstrated each other. It is no doubt that renewal TOYOTA Cup have attracted football fans more than before.
