TOCHIAZUMA DEFEATES YOKOZUNA TO WIN A HATSU-BASHO TITLE

SUMO

Strong Ozeki had returned. Japanese Ozeki Tochiazuma lifted a Shu-hai(Emperor's Cup) after defeating Yokozuna Asashoryu on the final day of January Grand Sumo Tournamnet at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan. The Yokozuna seemed to be difficult to show the strength as usual for 3 days after taken out outside the dohyo ground by Sekiwake Hakuho holding Yokozuna's right arm.

However Tochiazuma facing off Yokozuna was quick enough to grip his mawashi  belt. Asashoryu might not be able to do anything if his arms were perfect. Tochiazuma seemed to be so substantial in both energy and physical strength during the tournament.

Now Tochiazuma has a chance to promote the highest rank but last November, he had rested Kyushu-basho with a 2-2 result. Entering next Haru-basho at Osaka, Tochiazuma will need to win the title to become Yokozuna, probably over 14 wins. Runners-up Hakuho is expected to promote Ozeki next tournamet and Asashoryu was wanted to revive as the record-breaking Yokozuna.

I am looking forward to coming the March Grand Sumo Tournament 2006.
