SHUTOUT RELAY HELPS HAWKS EARN SERIES WIN
Though Fukuoka Softbank Hawks, who had been lack of manager Sadaharu Oh almost all second half of season, didn't have a rythm in attack to be defeated allowing Fighters starter Yoshitaka Hashimoto shutout game in the first of three-game-series against Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, it was marvellous that Hawks' chief coach Hiroshi Moriwaki's men drew victory twice in just a couple of chances to score. Hawks won the series thanks for good performances of pitchers and their combinations.
Especially third game, after Julio Zuleta's RBI double in 6th brought home the runnner Munenori Kawasaki, who hit a sliding double to center, Yoshiaki Fujioka relieved starter Yasushi Kamiuchi, who allowed three hits and no runs in 6 1/3 innings. Fujioka perfectly held the game with no hits and two strikeouts and fielding double-play to keep the no-run relay. Takahiro Mahara closed the door with allowing one hit and two strikeouts before accomplishing shutout relay with 1-0 victory. Here is coming one to one of Seibu Lions and Hawks in the Pacific League 2006.
